India Inc made 143 acquisitions in the US in financial year 2007-08 and 2008-09 totalling $5.39 billion, according to a study released by industry body Ficci in association with Ernst & Young. The deal size in this period varied between $0.8 million and $1 billion. About 94 deals were concluded in 2007-08 alone, with total value of over $4.43 billion. The slowdown dampened the enthusiasm of Indian companies in 2008-09 and they made 49 US-bound acquisitions worth a total of about $960 million. Tata Chemicals, Rain Calcining, Wipro, Firstsource Solutions and Reliance Communications were rated the top five companies in terms of acquiring US companies over the last two years. These companies alone registered deals worth about $ 2.77 billion.
