The Ministry of Labour and Employment gives benefit of Extended Maternity leave to the Women already on such leave

In the recent notification issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Government has made it clear that it is mandatory for the employers to extend the benefit of the enhanced maternity leave to those women who were already on the maternity leave on the date of enforcement of Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 issued on 1st April 2017.

The clarification was issued in relation to the Amendment Act which had received the assent of the President on 27th March, 2017 and had come into force on 1st April 2017.  Through this Act, the employment of women during the time of her maternity is protected and the women is also entitled the maternity benefit which means the full paid absence from work for the purpose of taking care of the child as well as her health.
