SC: Compact Disc to be Admitted as an Evidence

In an appeal against the order of High Court of Punjab and Haryana, the Supreme Court of India in its verdict stated that the Compact Disc is also a document which comes under the purview of Section 3 of the Evidence Act and shall be admitted as an Evidence. The bench of Supreme Court of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice P.C. Pant held that a compact disc can be admitted as a document.
Further, the Apex Court has decided that the Courts have erred in rejecting the application made by the appellant to play the Compact Disc before the Court. However, the Apex Court did not decide on the Authenticity of a CD in a case but permitted the appellant to use the CD in his defence to prove his innocence.
