The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (M-I&B) has amended cable TV regulations by inserting a new rule 10A in the Cable Television Network Rule, 1995 (second amendment) Rule, 2012 that puts the onus of authenticity of data on set-top boxes and its deployment on multi-system operators (MSOs) and local cable operators (LCOs).
The amendment has been made after authorities realized that some operators may have taken them for a ride, which led to postponement of the cable digitization deadline by four months to October 31, 2012. The obligation to furnish information under the amended rule 10A has been incorporated as one of the terms and conditions of registration of cable operator under rule 5A and MSOs under rule 11D. In case of any irregularities, the MSO / LCO would lose its registration as it will then be considered as violation of one or more of the terms and conditions of registration.
