SUPREME COURT TAGS APPLICATION WITH PETITION SEEKING RIGHT TO DIE

Search News

The Supreme Court attached an application with the main petition seeking right to die when life becomes an unbearable burden due to terminal illness. A bench headed by Justice B N Agarwal directed that the application filed by Society for Right to Die with Dignity and Dr Surender Dhelia, society’s General Secretary, seeking permission to intervene in the main case filed by Common Cause, should be heard with the main matter.

The society, which is affiliated to World Federation of the Right to Die Societies, has pleaded with the court that it should be permitted to access the court by placing before it the literature in relation to right to die.

It has been a long standing demand that a person must have the right to get rid of his life if he was finding himself unable to carry the burden of life or is terminally ill.
