THREAT TO MONUMENTS: DELHI HIGH COURT REFUSES TO STAY METRO WORK
The Delhi High Court has declined to pass any order on a petition seeking a stay on the Metro's south Delhi corridor project on the ground that it posed a threat to six monuments.
A bench comprising Justices T S Thakur and Veena Birbal said, "Let Metro do its work and we would not interfere in its work." Metro is good for people as they cannot reach offices because of huge traffic congestion in the city, the bench said last week.
The court was not convinced by the plea of the petitioners - Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) of south Delhi - that the Metro could damage six monuments falling on its route, the bench said.
"There is nothing wrong in the Metro going by their (monuments') side. Those using the Metro can also look at the monuments." Refusing to pass any order on the plea, the bench posted the matter for further hearing to January 18.
The Bench was hearing a PIL filed by residents of South Delhi colonies which claimed that the overhead Metro in their area will be a threat to six monuments and cause disturbence to the residents.
