DELHI HIGH COURT DEFERS ARGUMENTS IN BMW STING OPERATION CASE

The Delhi High Court has deferred the arguments in the case in which two senior lawyers were caught on camera by a TV channel while they were influencing a key witness in the infamous BMW hit-and-run case.

The accused lawyers are facing contempt of court charges and the case will continue to be heard on January 3, 4 and 11 next year.

Arguing before a bench headed by Justice Manmohan Sarin, lawyer for I U Khan, an accused in the case and prosecution lawyer in the BMW hit-and-run case, said the TV channel has doctored the videos and everything shown in the episode (sting operation) is fabricated and has been put in a manner to accuse them of grave charges.

The defence added that they had already dropped the witness, Sunil kulkarni, from their list of witnesses, so there was no question of infuencing him. Terming the sting operation fake, the defence urged the court to drop all contempt proceedings against its client.

R K Anand, another accused in the case, said he has not received any CDs of the sting carried out by the TV channel, which is a violation of his fundamental right.

The bench said it will see the CDs itself and if anything incriminating is found against Anand, which forms a part of the case, the CD of the same will be handed over to him.

The court has asked for a reply from Anand on whether Kulkarni stayed at his farmhouse in Himachal Pradesh for 45 days as shown by the TV channel.
