SUPREME COURT NOTICE TO MULAYAM'S BROTHER
The Supreme Court has issued notices to former UP chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's brother and some other allottees of plots in a prime locality of Lucknow during the SP regime.
It sought replies from the allottees on the plea of the Mayawati-led government seeking transfer of all cases relating to the land allotment scam from Allahabad high court to the apex court.
A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan issued notices to Mulayam's brother Shivpal Singh Yadav and other allottees of land. Shivpal Singh Yadav was a director in the revenue department during the previous government.
The Mulayam government had allotted 28 plots in a prime locality of Lucknow. The beneficiaries includes Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, C Rawath, father-in-law of Mulayam's son Akhilesh Yadav, then special secretary Anita Singh and others.
The Mayawati has submitted that an inquiry report by Lucknow district commissioner Vijay Shankar Pandey said that the plots in Gomti Nagar were allotted in a fraudulent manner and in violation of the prescribed norms. The apex court in its September 12, 2005, interim order had restrained the state government from handing over possession of plots.
