INFRASTRUCTURE FOR UNAUTHORISED COLONIES: SC NOTICES TO MCD AND JAL BOARD

The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Jal Board on an application filed by the Centre seeking permission to provide basic infrastructure in 1500 unauthorised and unregularised colonies spread all over the Capital.

A bench comprising Justices K G Balakrishnan and R V Raveendran told amicus curiae senior counsel Ranjit Kumar to file his response to the application.

Another bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat is already examinig the issue and the Central government instead of approaching the bench, today approached the bench headed by the Chief Justice.

The court has directed the government to file a affidavit, giving details of the installation of sewage interceptor to control the discharge of effluents and garbage in river Yamuna so that increasing pollution and contamination of the river water can be checked, within three weeks.

The government was trying to issue tenders and award contracts for sewage interceptor without having any details of its size, capacity and other details neccesary for fixing the cost of the project.

The court has also directed the government to file its response within three weeks.
