PEPSI RESTRUCTURES BUSINESS
Beverage major PepsiCo has decided to split its Indian and Chinese operations into two new units. This would be the company's biggest restructuring of its two fastest growing markets in the Asia-Pacific region. The restructuring will be implemented from January 1, 2008 and is aimed at 'sharpening focus' on India and China, a company spokesperson said. Post-2008, the India region will be part of a new unit called South Asia Middle East Africa (SAMEA), which will merge the Middle East and Africa regions, along with Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The China operations will be part of the new Asia-Pacific region, which will include PepsiCo's businesses in Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, in addition to few other markets.
Coincidentally, the president of PepsiCo's Asia region, Ron McEachern, is retiring in January 2008.
