SUPREME COURT STAYS CONTEMPT VERDICT OF DELHI MIDDAY JOURNALISTS
THE Supreme Court has stayed Delhi high court's sentencing of Delhi MidDay journalists to four-months' imprisonment for contempt of court. A bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice P Sathasivam also admitted an appeal filed by the journalists of the daily challenging the high court order. To assist the court in the matter, the bench appointed senior counsel and former Additional Solicitor General T R Andhyarujina as amicus curiae. The case has been posted for January 2008. The court, however, rejected an application moved by 27 prominent citizens seeking to be impleaded in the case as a party.
