BOMBAY HIGH COURT SEEKS STATUS REPORT IN VG PATIL MURDER CASE
THE Bombay High Court has directed the CBI to file a status report on investigations into the VG Patil murder case, which had made political headlines in the run-up to July's presidential elections, by October 8. Mr Patil's widow, Rajni, had claimed that President Pratibha Patil's (then a candidate) brother GN Patil was involved in the murder, which took place on September 21, 2005.
Rajni Patil moved the High Court in July this year, alleging that GN Patil had plotted to kill her husband, who had defeated him to become president of the Jalgaon District Congress Committee (DCC) in 2005. She held that her husband had complained of alleged misappropriation of tsunami relief funds by GN Patil, who was the Jalgaon DCC president before him.
She even held a press conference in the Capital on June 22, 2007 at NDA member and SAD leader Sukhdev Singh Dhinsa's residence, and alleged that Ms Pratibha Patil was "protecting her brother" during the presidential election campaign.
