TVS MOTOR ADDS PATENT TWIST TO DUAL-SPARK ROW
IN order to safeguard its intellectual property rights, TVS Motor has filed a patent claim on its 3-valve Controlled Combustion Variable Timing Intelligent (CCVTi) engine using dual-spark plugs technology.
The CC-VTi technology is in the thick of the row over Bajaj Auto's claim that TVS Motor has copied from its own patented DTSi engine technology. The filing of a patent claim by TVS marks another twist in the battle between the two companies and represents an attempt by Chennai-based TVS to differentiate its technology from Bajaj Auto's DTSi technology.
"We have patented our lean burn CC-VTi engine technology and filed a claim at the patent registration office at Chennai on August 23. Our technological partner AVL, Australia, is already the patent holder for the 3-valve technology and we after incorporating many improvement to it have applied for its patent in India. We have taken the precaution as the CC-VTi engine technology will be used in all our future products," TVS CMD Venu Srinivasan said on the sidelines of Siam Annual Convention in Delhi:
Apart from the planned launch of its 125 cc bike Flame based on the CC-VTi technology in November, TVS Motor plans to bring out scooters and dual-fuel CNG run two-wheelers on the same technology. "It's a major investment for us as CC-VTi will help us to meet the stringent emission norms in future. The lean burn CC-VTi technology will help us to reduce the reliance on carbon fuel and launch out more fuel-efficient engines," Mr. Srinivasan added.
