CENTRAL DIRECT TAXES PANEL
The government today reconstituted the Central Direct Taxes
Advisory Committee chaired by finance minister P Chidambaram.
Minister of state for finance (revenue) SS Palanimanickam
will be its vice-chairman. The committee will advise the government
on measures for developing and encouraging mutual understanding
and co-operation between the taxpayers and the income-tax
department and on measures for removing administrative and
procedural difficulties of general nature.
According to a resolution issued by the revenue department,
the committee will have three official members and 16 non-official
members with its headquarters at New Delhi.
The official members will comprise revenue secretary KM Chandrasekhar,
Central Board of Direct Taxes chairman Berjinder Singh, and
its member (revenue) K Rangabhashyam.
The non-official members include four members of Parliament
— two from the Rajya Sabha and two from the Lok Sabha.
