CALCUTTA HIGH COURT SLAPS RS 52,000 FINE ON MARICO INDUSTRIES
The Calcutta High Court has asked FMCG company Marico Industries to pay Rs 52,000 to rival Dabur after dismissing a petition of the Mumbaibased company seeking the latter to stop advertising campaign of its product Vatika hair oil. “The plaintiff (Marico) would pay costs assessed at Rs 52,000 to the defendant (Dabur),” said Justice Sanjib Banerjee while passing the order after observing that Marico did not wished to proceed further in this case. Marico had approached the court last month through a civil suit and had alleged that Dabur was copying its popular coconut hair oil brand Parachute in an advertisement of Vatika Enriched Coconut Hair Oil.
