BSNL LOCAL CALL RATES TO LANDLINES CUT 75%
BHARAT Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has revised the pulse rate for local calls made to fixed-line subscribers of private operators to 180 seconds from the existing 45 seconds. This will result in up to 75% reduction in call charges. Currently, BSNL charges Rs 1.20 per 45 seconds for calls to a private fixed-line subscriber. Under the new tariff structure, a subscriber will be able to talk for 180 seconds for the same amount. The new tariffs are applicable from Wednesday. For calls made to subscribers of private cellular operators, the pulse rate has been revised to 60 seconds from 45 seconds. This will result in up to 25% reduction in call charges. BSNL charges Rs 1.20 for one pulse. Therefore, the subscribers will now be able to talk up to 60 seconds by paying Rs 1.20. The new tariff structure eliminates the difference between intranetwork calls and inter-network calls for the purpose of call charges.
“The new tariff structure and schemes will make our fixed-line services more attractive to subscribers,” said A K Sinha, chairman and managing director of BSNL.
For broadband subscribers, BSNL has introduced a new scheme under which one will be allowed unlimited download by paying Rs 900 per month. Under this scheme, the subscriber will also get a rent-free fixed line phone. Call charges will be Re 1 per minute per pulse.
