TECH MAHINDRA EYEING BPO BUSINESS
TECH Mahindra, the telecom based software solution provider, is focusing in a big way on the BPO business. The company has invested Rs 50 crore in infrastructure, technology and manpower for BPO and sees its contribution go up to 10% of overall revenues by the next fiscal.
But it has a unique business model. Tech Mahindra is targeting British Telecom's (BT) clients. After having bagged the bid for the end-to-end operations of a virtual bank, the company is looking at other financial services, healthcare, retail and government sectors to provide BPO support. These are sectors in which BT has strong client base. According to Sujit Baksi, president, corporate affairs, Tech Mahindra, the expansion of the BPO is a part of the recent deal with BT global services worth $1 billion.
For instance, a virtual bank in the UK, which is yet to open its virtual doors for business, has off shored its back-end support. Tech Mahindra's BPO, which is handling the account, is readying all the support needed for a bank, from opening or closing an account to offering loans and managing its fixed deposits. The company has also bagged deals from a North American telecom service provider and handles a lot of work for telecom service providers based in India from its domestic BPO.
The company now has clearly shifted its focus to the international market, although domestic operations contribute substantially to its revenues. Tech Mahindra BPO has operations in Pune, Chandigarh, Chennai and Noida with a headcount of 2,200 people. Apart from expanding operations in these existing locations the company plans to start operations in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
