HUTCHISON-ESSAR
ACQUIRES UP (WEST) LICENCE
Cellular operator Hutchison Essar has acquired Uttar Pradesh
(west) telecom service licence for Rs 30 crore, taking the company's
presence to 12 circles.
"We are increasing our presence in
north India with acquisition of UP west licence and the roll
out of our network in Punjab . We will be investing aggressively
to strengthen our national network and customer service capabilities,"
a Hutchison Essar statement said.
With this, Hutchison Essar's footprint
in the country now spans 12 circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata,
Chennai, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, Rajasthan,
Punjab, UP (East) and UP (West). The company had acquired
the new licence for Rs 30 crore, a company spokesperson said.
Hutchison Essar doubled its national subscriber
base to four million in 2003 from two million in 2002. The
company is currently investing Rs 1800 crore to strengthen
its national cellular infrastructure, IT backbone, customer
service network and providing new value-added services.
