SWISS CO LA ROCHE DRAGS CIPLA TO HC FOR PATENT VIOLATION

Swiss company F Hoffmann La Roche has moved the Delhi High Court, seeking a direction to restrain Indian pharma major Cipla from manufacturing and selling anti-cancer drug 'Tarceva'.

Hoffmann La Roche, which has the patent for the drug 'Tarceva' popularly known as Erlotinib, has also sought compensation to the tune of Rs 1 crore from Cipla for violation of its patent rights. The Swiss company approached the court after it found that Cipla was planning to launch a generic version of the drug Tarceva (Erlotinib) in India and also for exporting the same to various countries.
