INDIA TO GET TRADEMARK PROTECTION IN 71 NATIONS

INDIA will join the Madrid Protocol on international registration of trademarks. The decision was taken by the Cabinet. After the accession, Indian trademarks will get protection in all the 71 member countries of the protocol. In addition, foreign companies will also be allowed to register their trademark in India with this development.

The CCEA also agreed to pay an amount of Rs 2,169 crore for acquisition of mustard by Nafed. The company had incurred losses on account of purchase of mustard at the minimum support price fixed by government. The Cabinet gave its permission to the department of atomic energy for acquisition of land for Uranium mining by the Uranium Corporation of India in Cuddapah district.

The governments of India and Germany have also agreed to sign an agreement for film production between the two countries, the proposal for which was vetted by the Cabinet.

Other proposals cleared by the Cabinet include a productivity linked reward scheme for port workers, revival and restructuring of Mecon with a cash assistance of Rs 22 crore and the broad National Design Policy formulated by the department of industrial policy and promotion.
