DELHI POLICE CLAIM DECLINE IN CAPITAL'S CRIME GRAPH
The Delhi Police has claimed that there was a decline in the total crime graph in the national capital last year as compared to 2006.
Addressing the crowded annual press conference here, Delhi Police Commissioner Yudhvir Singh Dadwal said while 84,484 cases were reported in 2006, the number went down to 74,111 last year.
Similarly, he said as compared to 65,818 cases worked out in 2006, the figure stood at 55,856 last year.
Mr Dadwal said the worked out percentage of crime in the national capital in 2007 was at 75.36 per cent as compared to 77.90 per cent in 2006, a decrease of nearly two per cent.
However, he said the total number of heinous crimes such as dacoity, murder, attempt to murder, robbery, riots, rape and kidnapping for ransom reported last year witnessed a marginal rise last year as compared to 2006.
While the number of reported heinous cases in 2006 stood at 2209, it was 2217 last year, the Police Commissioner added.
Similarly, he said 1981 cases were worked out last year as compared to 1941 in 2006.
"The worked out percentage for heinous cases last year stood at 89.35 per cent while it was 87.87 per cent in 2006. There was a marginal increase of about two per cent in such cases last year," Mr Dadwal added.
